It was surely a difficult situation for her because she was already in a relationship but she was in love with you. It's just sad to hear that the girl you were in loved with and who was also in love with you was already committed to your best friend. guess you guys really moved on because it's been 15 years. I'm also surprised this song was not written for my life because, wow the relevancy. It's hard to believe that this song was not written specifically for the Netflix series because it fits perfectly with the flashback and what Clay was feeling. This is because they have fallen very deeply. Overall, the speaker does not know how to get over them and the only way to resolve the situation would be to never talk to them the night they met. Life is already terrifying and depressing enough without romance involved. That night was full of "terrors" because of impending romance-it can be dangerous. They lost them, for whatever reason (perhaps they were going through their own problems), and they cannot forget them. The speaker regrets what happened on this night because they did not want to fall for this person. This part resonates with me personally because I literally got a ride from this person, ironically. The "not to ride along with you" goes back to the traveling or exposition of the song. The song is coming from after this has happened-they're looking for their muse and this is why they want to go back to the "night they met," or at least the night before all of this happened. The speaker is implying that the person opposite them has as well. Perhaps they led them on or had other issues going on in their life. Doesn't sound too healthy, does it?Ī traveler who has not repaid his debts is someone who has taken something they involving the person they love. This song is about having underlying problems while you are falling in love. Once he gets back to the night they met, after he see what he wants, he is going to, not warn himself, but tell himself not to "go down that road." He is going to tell him that it will only hurt him and that he should stay away. He remembers the great times they had together and realizes he will never have those again. He is always haunted by the good memories they had. He wants to go back to the night they met so he can see her when she did love him. "I've been searching for a trail to follow again Broken heart, he doesn't know what to do. I think this song is about, all in all, about how he met this girl one night and they went on. But he doesn't just want to relive that night, he does want to stop himself from going down that road. The night that made him want to be with her in the first place. He wants to travel back to the night they met so he can relive that perfect night. I believe he went into the realtionship great, but it then turned bad. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why" like your theory, it's actually well thought out. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why" So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road.
